The Budget has come and gone while we are still reading the fine print and looking at who gains and who loses.

Prepared below is a broad list of companies which will stand to gain and lose based on the announcements made in the Budget. Have a look and get a perspective of India Inc and the Union Budget.

 

BUDGET-  WINNERS AND LOSERS

AGRICULTURE

ADVANTAGE

  • To create a national agricultural market to boost farm productivity and farmers income
  • To increase the target of agriculture credit by Rs 50,000 crore to Rs 8.5 lakh crore
  • Allocated Rs.5,300 crore for micro-irrigation
  • To allocate Rs 25,000 crore to the corpus of a Rural Infrastructure Development Fund set up Nabard also
  • Exemption from service tax for pre-cooled storage structures for fruits and vegetables

NEUTRAL

  • Govt aims for farm credit of Rs 8.5 lakh crore in FY16

ADVANTAGE

 

  • NBFCs registered with RBI with assets of 5 bln rupee and above will have access to recover debt under the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act (SARFAESI).
  • This will empower banks to recover NPAs without court intervention

INFRASTRUCTURE

  • Investment in infrastructure to go up Rs.70,000 crore in 2015-16

  • Proposes tax-free infrastructure bonds for projects in roads, rail and irrigation projects

  • Sanction of 1 lakh km of roads;

  • Defence allocation increases to Rs.2.4 lakh crore from Rs.2.22 lakh crore

EDUCATION

ADVANTAGE

  • To set up Educational Loan scheme for higher education
  • Will soon be launching a new skill development mission
  • to set up AIIMS this year in J&K, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, HP and Assam
  • Apprentice training institute for women in Uttarakhand
  • ISM Dhanbad to get IIT status
  • New IIMs in J&K and AP
  • As part of the movement towards GST, to subsume the Education Cess and the Secondary and Higher Education Cess in Central Excise duty. In effect, the general rate of Central Excise Duty of 12.36% including the cesses is being rounded off to 12.5

  • Govt to allocate Rs 75 crore for electric vehicles
  • Import duty on vehicles with capacity more than 10 seats increased to 40% from 10%

  • Excise duty waived on electric & hybrid vehicles

 ADVANTAGE

  • Cess on coal doubled to Rs.200/tonne
  • Cess is collected as National Clean Energy Fund (NCEF) and is disbursed for renewable energy based initiatives and power projects.
  • To fetch Rs 12,000 crore annually in the NCEF pool.

TOBACCO

DISADVANTAGE

Hiked excise duty on cigarettes by 25% for cigarettes of length not exceeding 65 mm, and by 15% for cigarettes of other lengths.

  • FY14 divestment target at Rs.40,000 crore and FY13 at Rs.24,000 crore

  • Renewable energy target increased to 1.75 lakh MW by 2022

Entertainment sector removed from service tax negative list
