A ‘Sixer’ idea!
This is simply a great idea! And it could not have come at a more opportune time. While MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket and Mumbai Govt is looking at the option of opening up Wankhede stadium for tours to visitors, there has been a search going on for the ball which won India the World Cup in 2011.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) roped in Sunil Gavaskar to locate the exact spot where the ball landed, disappearing into the stands on the historic night, when Dhoni hit the match-winning six.
The idea is to paint and decorate the seat, dedicate it permanently to Dhoni with his name, maybe with a plaque on that seat with some special text to honour that moment. The spot where the ball has been identified as seat number 210 in the MCA Pavilion, L Block. And the person in possession of the match ball has also been identified – this spectator caught the ball and has placed the ball in a display-case which also has the laminated match ticket.
This is such a wonderful and smile-inducing news when surrounded with so much gloom and doom. Indeed sports and especially, Dhoni have this unique trait – make one feel good.
