Brilliant initiative

There is a fantastic new initiative in Jalandhar, maybe something which all states should follow, especially in semi-urban and rural areas.

Jalandhar has a low sex-ratio as female infanticide is high. Punjab's Jalandhar district has 956 females against 1,000 males and administration has been focusing on increasing the ratio by next year.

To instill a sense of pride when a girl is born, letting people know that it is a cause for celebration, spearheaded by the Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner, it’s a part of the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign.

To celebrate the birth of a girl child, the administration has come up with an initiative where local MLAs and SDMs (Sub-Divisional Magistrate), along with other officials visit the houses of newborn girls with cakes, sweets, and gifts. They have already visited some 100 houses, mainly in the slum areas.
