God bless Savjibhai!
Come Diwali and one cannot help but think of Savjibhai Dholakia. A diamond merchant, founder of Shri Hari Krishna Exports came into the limelight in 2011 with his generosity, giving jaw dropping gifts to his employees, including 491 cars and even 200 flats.
This year too, Gujarat based Dholakiya gave 600 cars to his employees. Savji left school at the age of 13 and joined his uncle's diamond and once he learnt the ropes, took a small loan from his uncle and started his own business, mainly in diamond polishing. He struggled for 10 years and went on to set Hari Krishna Exports in 1991 and today he has over 6,000 employees involved in export of diamonds to some 50 countries.
This year, the diamond polishers of Hari Krishna Group will be gifted Renault KWID and Maruti Suzuki Celerio cars. The on-road price of both the cars is up to Rs 4.4 lakh and Rs 5.38 lakh, respectively.
Last month, Dholakia had gifted three Mercedes-Benz GLS SUVs worth Rs 3 crore to three senior staffers who completed 25 years at the company. The on-road price of a Mercedes-Benz GLS 350d SUV in Surat is currently around Rs 1 crore.
For a guy who came to Surat in 1977 on a state transport bus, with just Rs.12.50 in his purse, heading a Rs.6000 crore turnover company is joke! What is commendable is that he is generous and believes that his employees are the one’s who contribute to his riches and takes care of them, repaying their loyalty. A rare trait seen in people who have climbed up the ladder….
