Recently in May, the Indian Luxury Traveller Report published the results of a survey – post Covid where do people want to travel. This was an online survey of 3,500 Indian luxury travellers.
More than 70% of the respondents polled were from the big metros of India: Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad. 73% were in the 25-55 age bracket. For travel within India, Goa remains the top choice, with Himachal Pradesh, Leh & Ladakh, Sikkim, Kerala and Uttarakhand next on the list. 70% remain open to travelling abroad on vacation this year and the Maldives emerged as the destination they are most likely to choose.
And talking about Maldives, the country is considering reopening as early as 1 July and has published a set of guidelines.
- Visitors could be required to book vacations no shorter than 14 days.
- Travellers may have to apply for a tourist visa ahead of their visit, which will cost $100 – what about those countries which do not require a visa?
- Travellers to the region may have to submit either a negative antigen test or a positive antibody test a week before their arrival.
- Once travellers arrive in the Maldives, travellers to pay an additional US $100 for another Covid test and will be quarantined in their rooms until the test results come back.
Is this how most of the travel will now be?
