Did you even know that there is a Govt building which has won the People's Choice Winner at the prestigious AZ Award 2020 in the Social Good category. Not just that, even the Time magazine short listed this monument as one of the best public place designs category.

The award winning building is Odisha’s beautiful Krushi Bhavan.  The use of Sambalpuri fabric ikat design is the hall mark of the facade.

Located in Bhubaneswar, the structure was designed by Studio Lotus and has been inspired by the farmers of Odisha. Here are some interesting features:

Over 100 highly-skilled artisans have created a vibrant and contemporary narrative of traditional Odia craft at Krushi Bhavan, depicting agricultural folklore and mythological stories. For instance, the tribal craft of dhokra (cast metal craft) has been adapted to make light fixtures that wrap around the ground floor columns, as well as metal screens that line the building corridors.

In the Central Court, a Crop Calendar has been created on a stone inlay floor, which displays the harvesting cycles for the most prevalent crops in Odia farmlands.

The upper floors of Krushi Bhawan feature a distinctive brick façade inspired by Ikat patterns of Odisha handlooms, created using clay in three different colours that represent the geographical diversity of the region.

Using locally-sourced materials, the façade has been designed to ensure 100% daylit internal spaces. Further, the double-skin facade strategy reduces heat by 60%.
