A bus load of goodness
A wonderful idea to finally make use of the old public buses. The Kerala Govt, though grappling with a huge surge in corona cases is also simultaneously working on other sustainable ideas.
In collaboration with Milma or with Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, the state is converting old Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses into mobile food trucks. The first such truck has already come up in Thiruvananthapuram.
Usually, these buses are sold off as scrap and each such sale brings in around Rs.75,000. And the state currently has 500 such buses and it feels, converting them into sales points for milk and milk products will help generate employment, which is much better value than the Rs.75,000. At the same time, parts of the bus such as the engines, radiators and axles can be removed and used in other buses or even sold off to bring in some money.
KSRTC has over 500 buses which can be turned into food trucks and the idea is to park them near KSRTC bus stands, where the traffic of people is usually huge.
This is something which probably every state can do. Not only will it generate employment but help sell more of the Govt produced products too. Right from milk to grains and even vegetables, this is probably what all states should look at doing with old buses rather than sell it as scrap.
