Air India gets women-friendly
Last month, Air India tried, in its own way to curb the menace of harassment of female passengers by drunk or unruly male passengers. The airline has launched female-only seats on its domestic routes.
From 18th January, six seats in the third row of economy class cabins on its Airbus A320 aircraft are reserved for female passengers who don’t want to be seated next to men. The seats, which will be offered without any additional fees, will only be available for female passengers travelling alone. This is the only airline in the world which has earmarked priority seats for women only.
This is indeed a great move and will hopefully curb some of the male passengers from misbehaving and if they still continue to remain unruly, Air India has another plan – it has started keeping plastic handcuffs on board all flights to restrain such passengers during situations that get out of control.
Now this is what we call true protection! If only the airline does something about improving its overall travel experience, beginning with timely departure and arrival.
