Beautiful but unsafe Kerala

Tall, sky aiming coconut trees.  Cocoon of nature and beauty. Kerala, God’s own country is one of the most picturesque places in India. With its high literacy rate and the highest female to male ratio, Kerala is often stated as a paradise for women. Unfortunately, the crime rates indicate otherwise.

Of all states in India, Kerala has the highest crime rate of 455.8 per lakh people, over twice the country’s national rate of 196.7 per lakh people. Ironically, Northern India, especially Uttar Pradesh and Bihar has the very low rate of 3.7 in comparison to Tripura and Bengal who have the highest rates of cruelty, 23.4 and 21.9 respectively.  The state also boasts of the highest cheating rate, double the nation’s rate, 31.4 against the country’s 6.2.  Kerala also has an extremely high rate of criminal hurt , 60.7 against the national 27.7 and arson, 1.6 against the national 1.0.

Kerala is amongst the five richest states of India and one of the country’s most progressive states but unless it brings down its crime rate; even God cannot do anything to save ‘his own country.’
