Burst of celebrity food chains in Kerala

In Kerala, stars that have already claimed their fame, money and success in movies and TV serials are venturing into the food business.  Superstar actors like Mamoootty, Mohanlal, Srinivasan and Dileep are turning entrepreneurs with their own organic food restaurants, hotels and theme based cafes.

Some of these stars have even ventured beyond food into the hospitality sector.  Mohanlal tested his brand equity by launching a restaurant in Dubai and even a curry powder for the Gulf Market. When his ‘experiments’ yielded success, he sold them and launched a four-star business hotel in Kochi. Mamootty has taken up organic farming and is an advocate of zero-budget natural farming. He owns a 17-acre paddy field near Kumarakom in Kottayam district. Actor Srinivisan too has adopted natural farming and even aquaponics, a technique to maintain a fishpond and using the fish wastewater to grow vegetables. On the other hand, actors Dileep and Nadir Shah joined hands with fellow restaurateur friends for a ‘puttu exclusive’ restaurant.  Today, Dhe Puttu has branches in Kozhikode, as well.

Food. Clothing. Shelter. These are the basic needs of every human life. These superstars are more than well secure in the latter two needs and are now finding their niche and passion in food. When some live to eat, why not make a living of it?
