Cheers to Haldi doodh!
When our mother or grandmother told us to drink hot milk with turmeric, we would guffaw and make this wry face. But now that the western world is going ga-ga over this ancient medicine of ours, maybe we too will rediscover the magic which our Indian kitchens hold.
Turmeric is the next elixir in the western world. Said to have the power to cure everything from cancer to depression and Alzheimer, data provided by search engine in its 2016 Food Trends Report shows that Google searches for turmeric have soared 300% over the last five years.
The widely read newspaper, Guardian has suggested that turmeric latte –nut milk and juiced turmeric root, is 2016’s drink of choice.
Well, this is sure to increase demand for turmeric in India and the youth could go to Starbucks and order Turmeric latte for an exorbitant rate. That’s what the west does – our own ideas and practices need to come from there and then we accept it – yoga is the best example of this craze for all things western!
