Clicking away to super success

Have you ever wondered who comes to photograph when the bigwigs of India Inc get married? For us mere mortals itself, today, this photographer, for our ‘small’ weddings comes at a huge cost – anywhere between Rs.25,000 to 1,00,000 and upwards. So one can only keep of guessing what those who ‘click’ rich heir and heiresses of India Inc would charge.

Well, the man who has this ‘prestigious’ task is photographer, Prakash Tilokani. He was a struggling photographer but things changed, when in 1997 he got his first break – a 2-day wedding function in the family of Parsvnath Developers. And from there, on mere word-of-mouth he got established in this ‘big weddings’ circle. When he began, he was charging Rs.20/picture and today, where he proudly proclaims, ‘no middle-class clients’, he charges a jaw dropping Rs.3 lakh/day.

Tilokani’s client list includes families of the billionaire Ambani brothers, Essar’s Ruias, Hero MotoCorp’s Munjals, Videocon’s Dhoots and film star Shilpa Shetty. From a 44-square feet office in Baroda, he now has offices in Delhi and with weddings being held around the world, he and his team get to flay around too! Now this is what one can call ‘snapping’ a true niche!
