Dengue, death and 'dear life'
The death of filmmaker Yash Chopra due to Dengue has proven true, the ironical saying ‘money cannot buy you everything.’ The wealth can buy you the best treatment in world class hospitals but it cannot prolong the destined, death.
The romantic filmmaker’s death due to Dengue has left Indians panicky. Every day there are articles and talk shows discussing the symptoms, causes and effects of Dengue. But before the death of Yash Chopra, since January this year, over 647 dengue cases have been reported in Mumbai itself. Till this Sunday, dengue wasn’t taken seriously. Now, within three days of his death, BMC has started a dengue prevention campaign. On the other hand, people across India are taking considerable care of themselves, checking with their family doctors for suspected or confirmed dengue infection. People are flocking hospitals and private clinics with patients coming for dengue tests. The social network sites are posting symptoms and precautions for the deadly disease.
Why is it that only a celebrity’s death can open eyes on any important cause? If not for Mr.Chopra’s death, we would never understand the dangers of dengue and other mosquito induced diseases. It’s time to ponder about how shallow our lives have become that we need a celebrity to endorse death to value our life.
