Even two is crowd

Last year, Eenmaal, a new restaurant opened in Amsterdam. First of its kind, it attracted attention because it was the only restaurant in the world which is for singles, or a one-person restaurant in the world. The idea of this restaurant was to break the taboo of eating out alone in public. The restaurant has only one seat per table. At that time, one could not help but wonder where the developed world was heading and we in this over crowded cities of India, could only shake our heads, “tsk, tsking” and saying that this is one thing which could not happen here.

Well, think again. We do not yet have a Eenmaal kind of restaurant but going by the trend, this too could happen in India. Chennai it seems has some restaurants that caters to people who want to eat alone. A few years back, the restaurant Lotus, at The Park hotel used to place a goldfish in a globe on tables for guests who were dining alone. And unwittingly, another place, Dine At Escape Express has become a good place for loners to dine, where bar stools placed in front of a wall and turned it into a loners paradise for solitude.

People who are out to the city alone on work, those who want to be alone, those who want to quickly eat so that they can watch a show, many such kind of people who prefer or are forced into solitude, seek such one-person places to dine. There is nothing wrong in wanting to do this alone – after all you seek being alone but at not really complaining loneliness. In overcrowded places of India, it is sometimes nice to find a quiet corner by oneself and actually not indulge in small talk but just eat and enjoy the quiet. Now that sounds good, doesn’t it?
