Expensive phone? Higher social standing
There may be Samsung, Google Nexus, Blackberry, Nokia, Micromax and what-not but Apple is into a whole new league. When Apple launched its newest prodigy iPhone 5S, in three days it sold nine million handsets. This, in comparison to Blackberry, which sold about three million in three-four months, is huge news!
While, there are smarter, sturdier and more stylish mobiles in the market with a cheaper price tag; simply for the ‘brand name’, people queue up to buy it. Be it a mobile phone or even Apple’s recently launched free overhaul of their operating system to iOS 7- if it’s Apple, one must have it! In a week of launching iOS 7, 200 million devices are already running it. Mobiles have not just become a need right now; they have become a status symbol. That’s why, youngsters and fresh professionals don’t mind taking up EMIs to own a smartphone.
The more you splurge on your lifestyle, the better standing you have in your social circle – that has become the norm, our value standard . And, it is this misconception that Apple and others are banking on to boost their sales and profits.
