Face of drought

So Aamri Khan is going to be the face of drought. Really? What makes him this face? Or rather, what was the Maharashtra Govt thinking while putting forth his name?

The face of drought should ideally be the farmer himself. It is he who is going through the drought. It is he who is sitting on dried, arid land and staring hard at a mound of debt. It is his family which will live a year of penury and insecurity. Thus in this context, what makes Aamir the face? Holding an episode which highlighted this issue gives him this right?

If they needed a star, it should ideally have been Nana Patekar who has truly dedicated all his energies towards this cause. His voice is the one which rose above all others and garnered so much attention during the past few months. Why not him then?

To politicize this sensitive issue is so below-the-belt. Instead of putting a face to this, the Govt should concentrate on resolving this and not glamorize it.
