Face-pack for the Taj

Beauty packs for men and women for tightening the pores, or for lightening or for a ‘fresh glow’. All this we have heard. But a facial pack for the Taj Mahal in Agra?

Actually, this is also not new. One of the seven wonders of the world, did get a face pack in earlier too and now it’s time for another one. Due to increasing pollution in the city, the white marble is yellowing and is losing its sheen. To restore the natural look of the monument the chemical wing of the ASI has started preparations for a mud-pack treatment.  And like the traditional face packs used by us mere mortals, the Taj Mahal will get a multani mitti (Fuller’s earth) face pack. The monument will be covered with a 2-mm thick layer of Fuller's earth and when it dries, the flakes will be removed from the surface with soft nylon brushes and washed with distilled water to remove impurities sticking to the surface.

A mud pack was earlier given first in 1994, then in 2001 and last in 2008, with the cost then being around Rs.10.4 lakh. Working on smaller sections at a time, the process was carried over a period of 6 months.  At the moment, such a Fuller’s pack facial is being given for Akbar’s tomb in Sikandra.
