Generating employment
India Post is really on the move, getting into making news now on a daily basis. Yesterday, it was about how it is making money out of stamps and today it is about creating employment opportunities for students and the unemployed to help them deliver goods.
It is not allowed to hire third-party persons to pick up and deliver articles from post offices, with a 12% commission for every delivery. So 10 orders of 1 kg will earn about Rs.100-250 per day which is a lot better than sitting home, doing nothing. There is an upper limit for how much commission you can earn.
Currently almost all the major e-commerce portals are using the services of India Post and thus this need to employ third party persons. To become eligible one needs to first give an identification proof and get reference from two prominent person known to the post office, after which the third party will be given a licence to deliver and pick up articles.
This is a great move, not just to help deliver goods and keep the India Post name intact but more significantly, it will provide employment to so many struggling to make ends meet.
