IPL, BPL and now GPL!
A few weeks ago there was an announcement of Badminton Premier League (BPL) which was designed on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL), wherein it will have ‘biggies’ from the game. Similarly, professional golfer Shiv Kapur has collaborated with a sports management firm and launched a franchisee based golf league, Golf Premier League (GPL).
It will be a franchisee based competition, to be telecast live, having day and night rounds at a 14 hole stroke and the prize money will be worth US $400000. It will be an annual event played over three days, the first of which will be held in Aamby Valley City featuring eight franchisees. Each team will comprise of four players who have played internationally, Asian tour golfers as well as young golf players across the country. The key participants include Darren Clarke, Angel Cabrera, Michael Campbell, Johan Edfors, David Howell and Rich Beem. It will also include Indian golfers like Shiv Kapur, Daniel Chopra and Ganganjeet Bhullar.
By the end of this month, there will be an IPL style auction for franchisees to be able to have both International and Indian players in their teams. The first season of GPL will be kick started from February 7th.
