Its holiday time!
The festive season has begun and when one has to go to work, even at this time, it seems life is unfair! But then again, unless one works for a living, where will the money come to splurge during the festivals? But looks like the diamond merchants will be having a gala time.
With majority of the diamond merchants from Gujarat, the Surat Diamond Association has stated that, starting today, 5th Nov, Gujarat’s diamond cutting and polishing units will remain shut for 20 to 25 days. And this is their ‘routine annual vacations’. They are expected to re-open from December 1.
This means holiday time for the 6,547 diamond processing units in the state, which employs about seven lakh people. The diamond industry in Gujarat is stated to cut and polish nine out of ten diamonds in the world and expecting demand to pick up from Dec, which is Christmas and New Years time, they will be back to work. Where do the traders go for vacation? Not on expensive ‘phoren’ trips but they all go to their hometowns to spend the religious festival with family members and friends. Being away from family for most of the year, this is a much welcome break, understandably, eagerly anticipated holidays!
