Lessons to learn from Tanzania

Our politicians can surely learn a lesson or two from Tanzania. At a time when millions of gallons of water is being wasted to ensure smooth landing of the politician’s helicopter while rest of the country have no water for basic needs, here comes a story which surely should out every conscious bearing leader to shame. To be noted – conscious bearing….

Tuesday marks the National day or Union Day for Tanzania. And instead of spending millions of dollars on mindless celebrations, the President John Pombe Magufuli has cancelled the celebrations and recommended that the funds instead should be used for construction of roads. In December’15 too, he had ordered cancellation of Independence day celebrations and use the money for clean-up campaigns.  The relatively new Govt is in a rush to undo past failures. Good governance and accountability are high on Magufuli’s agenda. His style of leadership has included impromptu visits to public offices to see how government officials work and is climbing high on the popularity charts.

Why can’t we see some measures like these in our country?
