Making most of the crisis
In every adversity lay an opportunity.
Currently Greece is reeling under a crisis, an uncertain future for the entire country. The economy is in shambles, a quarter of the Greek are unemployed, banks are shut down and ATMs have a Euro60 limit. Yet, despite this, tourists are flocking the place in droves as they could not have asked for a more cheaper time to visit the place.
While local businesses in Greece will cease processing domestic credit cards, foreign credit cards will work. And while citizens are not permitted to withdraw more than 60 euros from ATMs, there is no such limit for foreigners.
Despite the collapsing economy, Greece remains relatively peaceful. That, coupled with tumbling prices, has kept visitors coming so far—last month, over 1.7 million tourists arrived in major Greek airports according to data from The Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises. Visits in recent months are actually up from a year ago.
A recent post a visitor there says it all, “Nice to be in Athens. Folks pulling cash from ATMs, while man plays theme song from Titanic nearby, over and over.” That pretty much says it all!
