Modi resurrects 'letter writing'
Just when we thought that the Indian Postal service might as well shut its doors, after all, with the advent of technology, who uses ordinary post anyway? Our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi addressed thousands of listeners on Air India Radio to send him a letter with their ideas and suggestions for improving the country. In a country like India, with hundreds of thousands of villages and hamlets, where many people still have no access to email or Internet, the PM’s radio talk was taken seriously and how!
As per New Delhi Post office, Mr.Modi receives between 3500 to 5000 letters a day from across India. It seems that since Mr.Modi became Prime Minister, Nirman Bhawan Post office, a complex in Central Delhi that houses several government departments has had to add two new staff members to handle the increased letter load.
Unlike our former PM, Narendra Modi’s personality and ability to connect with the country is evident in the number of letters he receives everyday. Since he became PM, he has been receiving an average of 5000 letters per day and for his birthday on September 17th; he received more than 100,000 letters.
