The movie could be good or bad. A SRK blockbuster or a Hollywood box office hit, popcorn has long become synonymous with movie watching. Popcorn, hot and fresh, caramel, butter, masala or the eternal salted which sells for usually Rs.100-200 in a multiplex has become a sizzling business in India.

PVR, one of India’s leading multiplex chains with 383 movie houses in 90 locations across the country sells on an average 18,000 popcorn tubs daily.  No wonder that 70% of multiplex revenues come from popcorn and soft drinks. That’s why, even when multiplexes offer discounts on movie tickets, they more than make it up during your ‘munching time.’

In fact, new popcorn entrepreneurs are emerging, making new investments by contracting farming for corn. This light-weight, weight-watchers dream snack is a more serious money making business than just popping corn! yes, the movie can be a super flop but at such time, pop corn proves to be the only saving grace!
