The episode of Maggi has left a strange and very disturbing taste in the mouth. Apart from breaking all trust on MNCs, who follow stringent health and safety routines in developed countries, we wonder about the safety of everything that we eat now.

And things are not looking all that good too. As per data released by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), more than 400 products are rejected as on 30th  April, 2015. The list of products include some well-known brands like Tata Starbucks, Kellogs, Ranbaxy, Amway, Venky’s etc. FSSAI has stated that adulterated food is on the rise. In FY12, FSSAI tested some 64,000 samples of which 13% were found to be adulterated. This rose to 15% in FY13 and 19% to FY14.

One cannot help but wonder why these products continue to sell in India. Why there is no law stop these products from being sold in India? Maybe we need to go back to our old ways of living – no eating out and no eating anything ready and out of a packet. Sounds like an impossible task in today’s life but if there is no health, what would be the use of everything else?
