Proud of Tata Motors!

Tata Motors might be having a rough road here in India but in UK, it seems to have hit the expressway!

The takeover of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has proven to be an excellent decision, not just for Tata Motors but for JLR too. From losses, the company has turned around and it is the UK numbers which are keeping the consolidated numbers of Tata Motors floating in the green.

The good news is that JLR is doing very well and the company recently launched a Jaguar for the young ones; those who have just started off on their career but want to live the high life. Something on the lines of Skoda Rapid, JLR launched a new model, XE, which is an entry-level luxury saloon car, at its factory in the West Midlands region of England.  The Tata Group’s investment in the unit represents the largest single investment in the Solihull plant in its 70-year history.

What is historic and something to be extremely proud about is that when Tata Motors took over JLR, in 2010, this very same Solihull plant, which started operations building aircraft engines during World War II, was in danger of closure.  But Tata pumped in some 1 billion pounds and this has led it to treble production to 2,40,000 vehicles and double the workforce in the suburb of Birmingham to 9,000.  And with the launch of this vehicle and another model, F-Pace, could take the production to 3,60,000 units per annum and could give employment to some 10,500-0dd people in UK.

So while there are the xenophobes, who feel that ‘foreigners’ are taking away all the ‘local’ jobs, here is an Indian company which has not only helped resuscitate an almost dying iconic brand and is providing employment to so many of its locals. Proud of Tata Motors! Wonder why their magic does not seem to be working in India though.....
