Recognition for stay-at-home women, finally!
An award for Housewives is not usually something you hear of. Truly, of course, housewives across India would be cheering, this is a recognition women who stay at home have been longing on from decades and generations.
Aas, meaning Hope, a New-Delhi based non-profit organization which focuses on women’s rights came up with this thought for an award which would help change people’s perception about India’s housewives. Amongst 8000 odd entries from women across India, twelve women were shortlisted and three were chosen as winners. The winners were chosen based on their general knowledge and their willingness to embrace the society’s changing norms.
While the thought is a good and noble one, an award function alone cannot women. Housewife or a working woman it should be her will and her decision, with the support of her husband and family. The society will change only if the people change and they will change, only when the perceptions change.
