Right initiative
Starting yesterday, the AAP Govt in Delhi started a service and going by the response, it seems to be a huge hit. To reduce the pain of standing in long queues and dealing with red tape when it comes to Govt services, AAP is offering door-to-door delivery of 40 services like caste certificate, driving licence, ration card, birth certificate, marriage certificate, water connection and many more such services.
Delhi residents can dial 1076 to place a request for doorstep delivery of services which will be provided from 8 am to 10 pm though the call center will function 24/7. This is being provided at a service fee of Rs.50. Under this service, all necessary documents are first collected from an applicant’s house by government agents or ‘mobile sahayaks’. Delivery of the final document is done either person-to-person or by post.
Yesterday was the first day and within 20 minutes of the phone lines opening the phones just did not stop ringing. Till around 10 PM yesterday night, a total of 559 appointments were booked, out of which the maximum of 224 were for services under the revenue department.
This is a great initiative, especially for senior citizens and people too busy to spend time at Govt offices. Such type of moves, which affect citizens directly is what governance is all about. This is where public money should be spent to ease the pain of the people and no in building symbolic statues and bullet trains.
