Running out of space!
This had to happen. We have heard, read and seen the small capsule like hotels in Japan and we used to wonder, “How can someone live like that?” But in space constrained Tokyo this was indeed the best option.
Well, Mumbai too have major space constraints and its first Pod or capsule hotel is finally here. Located in Andheri, Urbanpod is currently a fascinating concept. Those who have experienced it say that it is like sleeping in a train only with swanky and chic facilities. The space is compressed but it is super efficient where every little aspect of convenience is taken care of, right from a hook to hang your clothes, a television on the ceiling, a USB port, a socket for earphones, AC vents, reading lights, a fire alarm and extinguisher, and, more importantly, Wi-Fi too!
One pod is around 7 feet by 3 feet – that’s the kind of space we are talking about. This hotel is currently generating a lot of hype as it is rated as one of the few niche properties world-over where rooms have shrunk as a response to reckless urbanisation.
The cost - Rs 2,588 (including taxes) for the smallest capsule. Is this where mankind will finally head after this mad urbanization? You get the feeling of living in outer space; ironic because it is there because there is no space!
