So how was Diwali?
So how was Diwali? This festive season has been different. For starters, there were less crackers bursting this year. This, of course, could be for varied reasons from no inclination to rise in overall cost of crackers to environmental awareness. Whatever it may be, Mother Nature and our lungs are thankful!
Retailers too have seen a slump in purchases. While people still flocked to shopping malls and multilevel outlets to purchase new clothes, jewelry, accessories amongst others; the spending power, thanks to the rising inflation and cost of living has gone down. Mobiles phones, however, flew off the shelf. Univercell, India’s largest mobile phone retailor saw a 30% increase in sales compared to last Diwali. Carmakers too were in for a surprise as the sales picked up with the augment of festivity. Maruti Suzuki saw an increase in daily shipment of 15,800 this Diwali v/s 9800 cars in previous Diwali.
Home appliance sales witnessed a fall this festive season. But this season indeed has seen things differently. Maybe the spirit of the people has changed towards the festive season, maybe the rising expense has affected how we celebrate Diwali or maybe there isn’t anything really positive to celebrate this festive season. This Diwali has been all mellow, private and ringing in the celebrations privately.
