While B-town actors and actresses are getting honorary Doctorate degrees simply for their contribution to Indian Cinema, ordinary people are not that lucky. Every PhD aspirant does not have the means to go and pursue it abroad, that’s why India’s most prestigious college, IIT-Madras is in talks with top rated American Universities for a joint PhD program.

IIT-Madras has had a number of collaborations with the faculty in many American Universities and many top-rated Universities also has ex-IIT Madras alumnus as their senior faculty. Michigan State University, Purdue University and the University of Maryland would collaborate with the Institutions for joint PhD programs. Outside US, Taiwanese universities too plan to join this list as many IIT PhD holders end up working in Taiwanese companies.

Students go abroad for that global learning experience and while joint PhD programs with International Universities doesn’t guarantee a diverse footfall in these Indian institutes but ultimately, that’s the hope.
