The Feyman Technique

When you hear the name of eminent scientists, mathematicians, and Nobel Prize winners, you can only look at them with awe and tell yourself that God created their brain differently. But if you adapt the learning techniques of one such Nobel Laurette, Richard Feyman, a renowned theoretical physicist, you will understand that we all are created same but what separates us is the ability to sift the chaff from the grain, think logically and simply.

Feyman discovered that unknowingly he has stumbled upon a simple formula to understand things better than everyone else. He coined it – The Feyman technique, which will help you learn any topic, subject or concept faster, deeper. It is incredibly simple and has three steps to it.

1: Teach it to a child

If you can break down anything into a language and concept which can be understood by even an 8-9 year old, you know you have internalized the subject. If you find that you are fumbling at certain points, understand that those are gaps in your understanding which you need to fill.

That’s the second step 2: Review

If in step one, you are not able to explain something, go back to the source and understand the concept all over again, until you can explain it a child seamlessly.

3: Organize and simplify:

You have a bunch of handwritten notes of yours, put down in the simplest of language. Put those thoughts in a sequence, give it order, let is flow like a story; The key here is to use the simplest of language; being verbose does not mean anything.

And that’s it. You have mastered anything that you set your heart on. Maybe run it once again through that 8-9 year old and be assured, you will emerge a winner!
