The risk remains….

If one were to travel within India, what would be the best route? We are Indians, will look at the best, cheapest option, getting us to the destination in the best possible time. But if it is a foreigner, he/she could be worried, might actually cancel the tour going by the various news.

First the road – every four minute, one person is killed in India because of a road accident. Over 1,50,000 people die because of speeding, drunk driving or similar incidents. The Road Safety and Transport Bill, 2014 which promises strict punishment for rash driving and imprisonment for faulty design manufacture is a legislation which remains stuck in the Parliament.

Now air travel – some months ago we read about how two pilots of Indigo Airlines were about to land on the roads of Jaipur, mistaking it for a runway. It was only thanks to the internal warning which prevented this from happening in the last moment. Then there are incidents like a tyre bursting on Air India’s Airbus A320, a ground crew member getting sucked into the aircraft engine, an emergency landing of a place when the cockpit windscreen cracked, then there was a hydraulic failure….the list of accident goes on and on.

Now that’s a tough toss-up. For us, this data matters but we have no alternative, we will continue to travel, praying that we reach our destination safely.
