The 'Uber' for tractors!
Have you heard of Trringo? Maybe not if you are a urban dweller but maybe more so if you live in rural India.
This is a startup company from the stables of the Mahindra & Mahindra group – it is a tractor rental service named Trringo, which is also available as a mobile app. It is enabling farmers to hire tractors for short periods of time, bringing mechanisation within the reach of every small farmer; it is something like an Uber for tractors.
It is run through a franchisee as well as aggregator model. Under the franchise model, Mahindra will provide new tractors and relevant equipment to customers, which will be rented out by their franchising partners. The point to be noted here – it will be a brand-agnostic model, meaning it will allow franchisees to rent out non-Mahindra tractors as well.
Under the aggregator model, large farmers who own high-end equipment will be able to rent out their assets to other farmers using Trringo. The company will levy a fixed rate and a variable margin for their services. Mahindra controls the rates on the Trringo app depending on soil conditions.
Indeed an extremely laudable effort from Mahindra and it is good to know that companies like these take initiatives which work at the grassroot levels and helps enhance the livelihood of farmers.
