This is the real China
See, this is what happens in China. People, that too very influential and industrialist just vanish, disappear from the face of this earth.
Guo Guanchang is the chairman of Fosun Group, one of China’s most successful private-sector firms. He is a role model for many of China’s many aspiring entrepreneurs. He was known as China’s Warren Buffett. For months, dark rumours have swirled that he might get swept up in a continuing anti-corruption crackdown being conducted by President Xi Jinping. Xinhua, an official news agency, even named him in connection with a court case against the head of a state-owned enterprise earlier this year. The allegation at the time was that Fosun had sold assets cheaply to the state firm’s boss, but no action was taken against Mr Guo at the time. Fosun vigorously denied any wrongdoing.
On 10th Dec, one news service in China reported that Fosun group is unable to contact Mr.Guo since noon that day. The report that there were eyewitnesses who saw him being taken away by the police. On 11th Dec, no news but his company’s shares - Fosun International, the group’s Hong Kong-listed subsidiary, was suspended. Trading in shares of several related companies were also suspended on Shanghai exchange. Fosun later issued a statement saying that Mr.Guo was helping the police in certain investigations" by the mainland judicial authorities, without giving further detail. The statement said the company's directors did not think the investigation would have any significant adverse impact on the company's finances or operations.
One does not know what could be the fate of Mr.Guo. Will be snuffed out without a trace like so any others or will China see him once again? And is this the China to which we compare ourselves to all the time? Please…..
