Tuning into transistors

Recently, a seventeen-year-old Mumbai based girl died because she was listening to music on her headphones while crossing the road. And, unfortunately, that is a sight pretty common today on the roads of India.  For this mobile phone and tab generation, transistor would be well an obsolete, irrelevant invention of the past.

However, transistors would help people living in towns with less than one lakh population.  Eveready Industries is reviving their core business, batteries on which the transistors run and plan on selling it at Rs.500.  Eveready is a well-known brand and expects to do well in the rural market where it is well established but has it forgotten the Chinese duplicates that sell similar transistor sets for less than half the price?

Also, now with most mobile phones having an in-built FM Radio and mobiles available in the market for every budget; the yesteryear transistor might just not get that charged up this time.
