Ultimate in online services!
This is indeed the ultimate when it comes to online ordering and delivery!
Japan’s Amazon actually delivers a monk for services! It has listing on its site – budget-friendly monk. This service is called Obo-san bin or Mr.Monk Delivery. What you get? A monk of course and he comes with a basic service plan – transportation and a donation of 35,00 yen. This is stiff competition for the Buddhist temples where rates are higher – you can get their monk service for 1,00,000 yen or even more.
Monks are required when there is a death in the family to perform the last rites and that’s what this service is all about. Many Japanese find these services to be trouble free, cheaper and more transparent as they feel dealing with temples is very tedious and often murky – not knowing what you are getting for what you paid.
The company offering this service – Minrevi has been doing this online service for some time now. Earlier one could book a monk over the phone and now its online. The company says that its orders, after going online have more than tripled. The best part – monks who were feeling that their clan was getting rare, suddenly there is a burst of interest, with business booming. Many monks from across the country have signed up with Minrevi.
How about a service like this for our Indian priests? Even here in India, they are on the verge of extinction – maybe online services will give them also new lease of life?
