VIPs and their status symbol
What does VIP mean? It usually means a person or thing which is special, above the ordinary, very important person! But what does one say when so many people in the country become VIPs that it is becoming tough to keep tab on the number of protection men servicing them!
The number of VIPs protected by central security guards has risen significantly over the past few years. It is now at a shocking 454 people in 2016, up from 332 in 2012. Why should we be concerned? Two reasons – firstly, it our hard earned money, paid as taxes which goes to fund the security of these VIPs. Secondly, security is provided by the National Security Guard (NSG) who are actually trained to deal with terrorism, anti-hijacking defence; central paramilitary forces such as the CRPF, BSF, ITBP and CISF are all deputed to do VIP security duty. Getting a security force means you have arrived; it has become a status symbol.
Just to add one more inane thing to your GK – Z+ category security means 40 guards are deployed, those in Z, Y and X get 30, 20 and 3 guards respectively. Today, there are 49 people who get Z+ and 72 get Z category.
