We have heard of refugees of war, in fact the entire of Europe and Middle East is a witness to these very set of displaced people. But did you even have an inkling that Maharashtra is currently home to millions of water refugees?

The state is witnessing the worst possible drought in its history with two back-to-back years of poor rain. A camp has been set up between factories in the suburb of Thane. It is a regular refugee place, makeshift tent. It has three big 3000 sq.feet tents where giant water tankers are placed some 60 families are currently residing there. Some 1000 people more are expected in this month alone.

They all will live there till monsoon arrives. They all ask the same question – a human can manage without food but how can anyone survive without water?

Hope more political and honchos of India Inc take up this cause and help put up temporary water refugee camps as more and more come from parched lands, in search of water.
