What a man!

We make such a hullabaloo about how some of the super rich help the needy. But in what possible way can one appreciate who himself does not have much but donates all that he has to the needy?

This is the inspiring story of a librarian, Mr.Kalyanasundaram. For every month of his 30 years of service as a librarian, he donated every penny of his salary to help the needy. To take care of his daily needs, he worked as a part time waiter. When he got his pension, around Rs.10 lakh, he went on to donate paisa of this, once again to those who needed the money more than him. He is probably the only person who spends his entire earning for the others.

We in India keep a tab on the riches of others but such stories seldom get any coverage and encouragement. In fact recognition in India has to come from abroad for us to take notice. And that is what happened. The United Nations (UN) recognized this selfless person and adjudged him as one of the Outstanding People of the current century. Another American organisation honored him with the ‘Man of the Millennium’ award. He received a sum of Rs 30 crores as part of this award. As usual and not surprisingly, he distributed entirely for the needy as usual.

Moved by his passion to help others, Super Star Rajinikanth adopted him as his father. He still stays as a bachelor and dedicated his entire life for serving the society. He has a NGO under the name of Paalam and little wonder, it is considered to one of the most trustworthy social organizations.

Mr.Kalyanasundaram says, “I am a bachelor and my personal needs are meager. I am able to manage doing odd jobs in a hotel or a laundry. I simply do not wish to own anything.  Everything is, therefore, a state of mind. Finally, what do we take with us when we leave planet earth?” Wow!
