World grows vertically
Just as the world population is growing from all sides, looks like cities, running out of space are growing vertically. Well, some cities like Dubai grow ‘tall’ to make records first as they surely have no issues of space!
We have all kind of bizarre councils, so there is one more – Chicago based, Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat released it annual tall building data research report on 200-metre-plus buildings completed across the world last year. No skyscraper in Mumbai figures in the list.. The 823-m Burj Khalifa (163 floors) completed in 2010 in Dubai retains the top spot globally. And in 2013, the 355-meter tall JW Marriott Hotel 2 in Dubai was the tallest among the 73 buildings completed. 27th tallest building in the world.
For the 6th consecutive year, China had the most 200-meter-plus completed 37 skyscrapers, the maximum completion in the world. There were a total of 73 new tall buildings across the globe and of this, USA had only one. Asia dominated the world tall-building industry. It had 74% of worldwide completions with 53 buildings in 2013 against 53% with 35 buildings in 2012. Asia now contains 45% of the 100 Tallest Buildings in the World.
