The company provided a fantastic set of numbers for Q4FY16, at least on face value. This DTH service provider’s net profit for the quarter jumped up 1280% or almost 14 times to Rs.487 crore from Rs.35 crore posted in previous Q4. This has very little to do with operational efficiency and more to do with deferred tax. The company had a deferred tax write back of Rs.403 crore and that is the sole reason for this 14-fold rise in bottomline.

The company’s net revenue for the quarter was up 10% at Rs.797 crore and the average revenue per user (ARPU) for the quarter was at Rs.174 v/s Rs.172 in previous Q4. On 22nd March, the company hiked its prices in North and South India by 4-8% and we could the effect of this in current Q1. Its net subscriber additions were at 5,08,000 v/s 3.17,000 in Q3. 

Dish TV ended FY16 with a consolidated net profit at Rs.692 crore v/s Rs.3 crore on a 14% jump in net revenue at Rs.3051 crore.
