TATA INVESTMENT CORPORATION
Tata Investment Corporation (TIC) is a non-banking financial company. Earlier named the Investment Corporation of India, the company is primarily involved in investing in long-term investments such as equity shares and equity-related securities, mainly in Tata group companies. TIC was promoted by Tata Sons in 1937 and went public in 1959, when it became one of the few publicly held investment companies listed on the Mumbai Stock Exchange. TIC, along with Tata Sons, promotes the Tata Mutual Fund. TIC’s top holdings are Tata Motors, Tata Chemicals, Tata Steel, Trent, Titan Industries and Tata Global Beverages and these together account for half of its investment book. It holds stake in Sun Pharma, Reliance, M&M and HDFC Bank and unlisted companies like Tata Sons and National Stock Exchange.
The company had a good Q4 and FY16. Its total income for the Q4FY16 rose 11% (YoY) at Rs.39 crore. Costs were up 25% - interestingly this quarter it paid Rs.4 lakh as donations and Rs.1.2 crore in Fy16. Employee cost is 50% of total expenses. Tax outgo was down 42% and net profit came in at Rs.31 crore, up 24%.
The company ended Fy16 with a consolidated total income of Rs247 crore, up 8% and net profit rose 4% at Rs.194 crore. Equity is at Rs.55 crore and EPS was at Rs.35.28 (FV of Rs.10/share). Reserves stood at rs.227 crore and cash was at Rs.15 crore. It is a debt free company. Promoters hold 73.01% stake of which Tata Sons holds 68.14% and the rest is held by Tata group companies.
