Tinplate Company of India, a Tata enterprise, is in its 98th year and looks like it is still going very strong. The company posted a net sales of Rs.271 crore, up 62% (YoY)  which 46% came from sales and 50% from conversion charges. It ended the quarter with a net profit of Rs.11 crore, up 83%. Operating profit was at Rs.29 crore, up 14%.

The company has very negligible debt though equity is pretty high at Rs.105 crore. FY17 net profit was lower at Rs.28 crore v/s Rs.68 crore in FY16 and EPS came in at Rs.2.66 (FV of Rs.10). 

The company is into manufacture of cost-effective, value-added tin mill products. It manufactures various grades of electrolytic tinplates, tin-free steel sheets and Full Hard Cold Rolled Sheets (FHCR) used for metal packaging.  It is India’s largest indigenous producer of tin coated and tin free steel sheets is promoted by Tata Steel which holds 74.96% stake. The company was incorporated in 1920 and the site chosen was Golmuri, Jamshedpur. TCIL is today the largest indigenous producer of tin coated and tin free steel sheets in India,enjoying 35-40% market share and undoubtedly the industry leader for more than 90 years. The company exports about 20-25% of its production directly to end-users (can-makers) and its products are well accepted in the markets of SE Asia, Middle East and some developed countries in Europe.
