L&T has emerged as the lowest bidder for design and construction of the 237-km stretch - the largest segment of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. This is almost 47% of the entire 508 kms route between Vapi and Vadodara.

L&T placed its bid at Rs 24,985 crore.  It beat others in the fray like consortiums led by Tata Projects and Afcons Infrastructure.

The scope of the work includes design and construction of civil works along with building works including testing and commissioning on design-build for double line high-speed railway, involving viaducts, bridges, maintenance depots, tunnel, stations etc.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor is being built at a cost of Rs.1.08 lakh crore with funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

The stock is doing very well today, rising over 3.5% to Rs.935.60 and remains firmly in the green. Its 52-week high is at Rs.1491.15 and low at Rs.661.05.
